These maps show the first efforts in determining global emissivity. The CERES SARB code will require both a broadband and window (8-12 micron) emissivity. The development of the emmissivities used to create these maps can be found in the (PDF Format) NASA Technical Paper "Surface Emissivity Maps for Use in Satellite Retrievals of Longwave Radiation". The data are fixed temporally except that ice data from a 1986 SMMR map is overlaid on top of the scene type map. Select a button or one of the hard links below to see the new maps.
